Travelling to Kenya? You’ll need an eVisa at the point of entry. In fact, if you’re boarding a plane destined for Kenya, you need to produce a printout of your eVisa at the airport. But how long does it take to process this document?
The standard Kenya eVisa processing time is 3 business days although there are 3 different categories indicated on the application form: standard, urgent, and super urgent. How long it takes to process your eVisa depends on the type you choose here. The cost also varies, ranging from $59 to $158 depending the urgency.
Note that it is possible to get the eVisa document on arrival if you don’t mind the waiting time and the possible inconvenience you will face.
KE eVisa Application Process
Every foreigner needs an e-Visa to travel and visit Kenya. Some countries are, however, exempt including Rwanda, Mauritius, Malaysia, Jamaica etc. You can see the full list of eVisa exempt countries here.
If you’re eligible for the document, you’ll need to follow a simple application process on the government portal called eVisa. Note that you’ll still need a valid passport issued by your country before you can obtain a Kenya eVisa document. Here’s the application process explained and illustrated:
1. Logon to the eVisa portal (http://evisa.go.ke/evisa.html)
This is the government portal for the registration of the different types of visas. Here, you can choose between the single entry, transit visa, or the courtesy visa options. More on these later.
2. Click ‘Create Continue’ to register or login
On the next page, you’ll be prompted to either login or register a new account as a foreigner. If you already have an account, just sign in and proceed to the payment page. But if you do not have an account, proceed to register.
Fill in the details in the application form, making sure all your personal information is accurate for smooth processing.
Other than being able to apply for your visa as a foreigner, you’ll be able to register and access for other government services using the same account.
3. Pay for the application using your debit card
The next step is to pay for the eVisa for processing using your Visa or Mastercard card. Other debit cards are also accepted.
4. Wait for the approval email
Once payment is done, you’ll receive an email confirmation with the approval details.
