Tuesday, November 19, 2019, Nairobi – President Uhuru Kenyatta has nominated Dr. Margaret Nyakang’o as the new budget controller. If vetted successfully by the Committee on Finance and National Planning, she would replace Agnes Odhiambo.
Agnes was Kenya’s first ever budget controller.
If the committee gives the green light on Uhuru’s nomination, the president will go ahead and officially appoint her into the important position.
Ms. Nyakang’o was shortlisted for the position together with Edith King’ori, Duncan Otieno, and Judith Akumu. She holds a Doctorate of Business Administration from the University of Liverpool, UK.
Dr. Margaret Nyakang’o has worked in a similar position before for a parastatal in Western Kenya. Of worth noting is that Dr. Nyakang’o also held a position that tasked her as the principal corruption preventive at the defunct Kenya Anti-corruption Authority (KACA).
KACA is known to be one of those authorities that existed for years without success at stopping corruption.
Dr. Margaret Nyakang’o has broad experience in financial management, Accounting, Administration, Strategy, Auditing, Accounting, Tax, and Human Resource management, all gained in a variety of organizations both in the public and private sectors.
The new nominee started her career in the national audit office, where she left at the position of Principal Auditor, having audited Government institutions, local authorities and State corporations as well as donor-funded programmes.
