There are many ways to pay for your DStv subscription. The main ones include visiting a Multichoice Africa branch close to you, bank payments, online payments, and mobile money payments. This is a guide on how to pay your DStv bill via Mpesa using the paybill number as well as other options you have. We’ll also show you how to fix error codes after paying your bill.
The DStv paybill number is 4444900. This Paybill number will be combined with your DStv account number (basket ID or reference number) to make the payment. The most common DStv errors are E16(E16-4), E18, E19, E30, and E32 and fixing them is done mostly through the DStv Self Service tool.

How to Know your DStv Account Number
Your DStv account number is simply the smart card number without the last digit. Your DStv smart card has 11 digits which form a 10-digit code to be the account number. This number can be found on the smart card and under the decoder.
In the case that you can’t access your smart card number and consequently the account number, here are the methods of accessing it:
Using the DStv Remote
With your DStv on, take hold of the remote control and follow these steps:
- Press the OK button on your remote control.
- Choose the “Information Central” option on the screen and press OK again.
- Look at the far-right side of your screen for a 10-digit code.
That’s your account number.
Using the USSD Code
For those without smartphones, DStv has provided a USSD code to access some of its services. The code is *423#. Dial that from your phone and follow the prompts that follow to obtain your account number.
Contact the DStv Customer Care
If the above methods aren’t available, you can reach out directly to the DStv customer service desk through the following methods:
- The call center can be reached through 0711066000.
- You can drop them an email through Dstvkenya@multichoice.co.za

This is a service that is open around the clock and a direct message to the help desk is guaranteed to receive a reply from DStv. You’ll only need to provide a few details and the team will get back to you in a short while.
With these methods, you can find your DStv account number quite easily. With the customer care option, you can have all your questions concerning your DStv services answered.
DStv Packages and Their Prices
DStv offers the best channels on the African continent. That includes world sports channels such as SuperSport and documentary channels such as National Geographic. The channels you access are, however, dependent on the package you choose.
The packages and their prices are as follows:
1. DStv Premium – KSh 7,500
The DStv Premium package has more than 128 channels and costs KSh 7,500. The premium package was previously charged at KSh 7,900 and the drop in price doesn’t mean it has reduced channels or has poorer quality.
The channels offered include more than 100 channels streaming content from around the world including live sports, documentaries, kids’ channels and even movies in high definition (HD) quality.
2. DStv Compact Plus – KSh 4,500
The Compact Plus package from DStv has more than 113 channels and used to cost KSh 5,200 a while back.
On Compact Plus, you can still access a good number of the top channels found on the Premium package. These include the sports channels and lots of local entertainment. Movie and music channels are still available in plenty.
3. DStv Compact – KSh 2,500
Previously going for KSh 3,200, the DStv Compact package has more than 106 channels among them local (continental) sports channels, movie channels, and kids’ programs. Music channels are also in plenty in this package.
4. DStv Family – KSh 1200
This package has at least 87 channels and had a previous price of KSh 1,900. As its name suggests, it has channels focused on the family. These include Africa Magic Movies, Sony Max and many more. If you’re looking for the most family-friendly shows, then the DStv Family package will meet your needs.
5. DStv Access – KSh 900
The DStv Access package has at least 71 channels and had a previous pricing of KSh 950 before the price drop. This is an introductory package for the family package and has most of the channels on the previous package but with a few key exceptions.
DStv Package Add-ons
Beyond the packages above, there are add-ons you can bundle with your current package for extra channels. They include the following:
1. DStv French Plus – KSh 3,400
This package add-on enables you access 15 French channels for a mere KSh 3,400. You can add the package to the Premium, Compact Plus and Compact bouquets.
2. Great Wall Africa Bouquet – KSh 770
This is an independent package filled with Chinese content. You’ll find Chinese documentaries, lifestyle channels, news channels and entertainment channels in this package.
When paying with your M-Pesa (or other method), keep in mind the prices of the package you’re paying for. These prices are subject to changes and you thus need to confirm them each time you make the payment.
How to Clear DStv Errors
Error codes are common with DStv customers and understanding their meaning is a major step towards resolving them.
Rather than forcing customers to make calls to its customer care desk, Multichoice Africa devised ways for customers to resolve lots of issues on their own through the Self-care program.
The most common errors include the following:
1. E16 (E16-4)
When you see this error, it’s a sign that you’re not allowed to view a certain channel. The reason can be the unavailability of the channel in your region, or not having paid for that specific channel.
If the channel was on the list of those you paid for yet you’re receiving this error code, follow the reauthorization procedure for your package. You can access this process through the Self care service.
If it’s an issue with payment, make the necessary payments as needed to access the channel.
This error code appears when the channel you’re trying to watch is scrambled. This points to a product mismatch or a halting of the service.
You’re likely to see this error code after disconnecting and reconnecting the decoder from its dish or when the decoder was not on power for a while.
To clear this error code, you should first connect the decoder to the dish, turn on its power then wait for 15 minutes. If the error still appears, use the reauthorization procedure used in clearing the error code 16-4.
This error appears whenever your account has been suspended. The solution to this requires calling the DStv customer care desk since there’s no workaround for it on the customer’s end. Often, the reasons for suspension are only known by the customer care desk.
The E30 error code appears when you’re installing the DStv decoder for the first time, or you’ve not used the decoder for a long time and you’re starting it.
To resolve it, you need to give the decoder a few minutes and it’ll go away on its own.
This type of error will appear when your decoder hasn’t been enabled to view that channel. It may be due to the suspension of your account. You’ll need to call the DStv customer care desk.
To solve all of these errors, DStv offers an online platform where you can follow these prompts to solve it:
- Go to the DStv error resolution page.
- Choose the error code you’ve seen displayed on your TV.
- Enter your smart card number for your decoder.
- Enter the captcha challenge then select the “Fix Error” button.
- On the next page, click on the “Reset Device” option.
Your device will be reset. When it comes on, the error should be gone. If not, you’ll need to reach out to the customer care desk.
Always make sure that your decoder is on whether you’re paying for it, or fixing an error. With the directions given in this article, you’re guaranteed peace of mind when interacting with your DStv decoder.
